ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE

We promote PEACE by bringing about JUSTICE through DEVELOPMENT of people.

The Organization is an organ of the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti charged with the responsibility of responding to the social and humanitarian needs of all persons in Ekiti State with particular consideration for the poor, the excluded, the underprivileged and the down trodden in the State.

The Organization was established in 1972 in response to the Episcopal Commission on Development and Peace call that the Church must respond to social issues affecting all persons being creatures in the image and likeness of God. The Organization was officially registered with Corporate Affairs Commission, Nigeria on the 6th day of August, 2009 under the name ‘The Incorporated Trustees of JUSTICE DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE INITIATIVE, EKITI DIOCESE (CAC/IT/NO 34159).

FUNDING

The Organization  relies primarily on local contributions to finance its programmes. It raises money from interested philanthropists in the State, and also from proceeds realized under Micro Credit Scheme of the Organization. It also relies on supports from donor agencies out of which MISEREOR in Germany stands out. Other donor agencies from the Organization had enjoyed supports include: (i) DFID, Nigeria (ii) European Union (iii) PATHS, Ekiti (iv) OXFAM, Abuja (v) Irish Embassy (vi) WaterAid Nigeria (vii) Society for Family Health, and (viii) German Embassy.

 FINANCIAL POLICY

The Organization operates 100% banking transaction system. A representative of the legal Holder and the Director of the Organization are signatories to the Organization accounts. The Accountant keeps every banking instrument in his custody. He/she prepares every instrument for bank transaction for approval by authorized officers and present same to the signatories for their signatures. The Assistant Director gets all alerts for bank transaction and makes monthly reconciliation. The Accountant prepares the Organization’s Financial Statement for Auditors’ consideration.

The power of the Organization’s Officers concerning making of requisitions, approval of funds for spending, and making of retirements, are clearly spelt out in the Organization’s Financial Policy. 

The Organization demands strict compliance to its policies.

MANAGEMENT POLICY

The Management Team comprises of the Director, the Assistant Director, the Administrative Secretary, and the Accountant. The roles of these officers are stated in clear terms in the Staff Manual of the Organization.

The Director, who is appointed by the Legal Holder of the Organization, is responsible for the day to day running of the Organization. He/she runs the Organization as provided in the Organization Constitution and the governing policies made by the Governing Board and approved by the Legal Holder. he/she makes periodic reports of the happenings in respect of the Organization to the Governing Board and afterwards to the Legal Holder.

The Organization is generally blessed with competent and goals achieving personnel comprising professional staff and volunteers.
