This department promotes recognition and respect of human rights in Ekiti State towards making Ekiti State a just, peaceful, and developed society.  The department provides free legal services such as legal representation and education on legal matters to the disadvantaged and oppressed members of Ekiti State with particular attention on the unlawfully detained persons in prison and indigent men, women, and young persons of the society.

The department monitors electoral processes towards achieving a free and fair election. The department also executes activities designed to achieve people’s active participation in governance. Other activities execute by the department include budget monitoring, alternative dispute resolution practices, human rights enlightenment programmes, and human rights abuses reporting.

The department is on air weekly to discuss human rights matters.
