A Cross Section of Participants at the Sensitization Program

It was an eventful day on the 8th of October 2016 as the Human Rights/Good Governance Department of the JDPI, Ado Ekiti, of the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti held a One-day sensitization Program for Youths in Ekiti on human rights. Over 80 Youths selected from the 16 Local Government Areas of Ekiti State participated in the exercise.

The event held at the Pastoral Centre (Pope John Paul II) along Ikere Road featured Reverend Father Emmanuel Akingbade who clearly and convincingly took the participants through series of human rights issues and the need for collective effort towards making our society a place where human rights are respected. The participants were charged to uphold human rights within their respective communities and to demand recognition of same. The take home message for the participants is – KNOW YOUR RIGHTS, DEFEND THEM, AND BE FREE. Different suggestions were offered by the participants on how to increase human rights awareness and respect/recognition of same in our society. The participants were grateful for the the wonderful enlightenment opportunity on human rights.
